PICCC

Penang International Climate Change Conference 2017, in short PICCC, is organised with the theme “Making Cities A Solution”. Cities are among the highest contributor to climate change, which accounts for as high as 70 percent of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. As such, cities play a pivotal role in sustainable development solutions to combat climate change.

The conference aspires to bring up discussions on unique solutions cities can offer not just to fight climate change, but also to boost economic prosperity and catalyse smart urbanisation. Therefore, we hope to bring all city leaders, citizens, policymakers and decision-makers, academicians and climate scientists to work together towards a common goal—putting their heads together to help make cities into a sustainable solution.

What is the objective of PICCC?

To create a platform for the target audience to exchange strategies and action plans on climate change and sustainable development issues

To strengthen the bonding between sister and friendship cities of Penang for future environmental collaboration

Who are our target audience?

Policy Makers

Academicians

What is expected from PICCC?

The scope of our conference is set to create as direction for our discussion. However, we do not limit the topics to ensure our discussions are all-encompassing when it comes to sustainable city planning and development on climate change.

  • Low-Carbon City
  • Climate Action Plan
  • Resource Management (waste, water, energy)
  • Public Education and Capacity Building on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

In part, through the conference, we hope to achieve a more comprehensive international climate change discussion, agreement and policymaking with identified challenges and solutions. Nevertheless, the meeting is expected to achieve the following outcome.

DISCOVERY

Exchange knowledge, share lessons and experiences regarding application in climate-resilient and sustainable development for strategies, policies and city planning

CONNECT

Increase dialogue and communication pertinent to policy makers, stakeholders and institutions among sister/friendship cities

ACTION

Identify best practices, barriers, challenges and innovative solutions

Building relationships and collaborate

PICCC 2017 is a two-day conference, an interactive platform to connect and reconnect colleagues around the world. It is the place for building relationships with others who excel in city solution, planning and management, and creating a city that is sustainable.

We welcome all policy makers, practitioners and academicians who are involved directly or indirectly in city planning and sustainable development to share their experiences on formulating climate-related policies and actions.

We have invited Penang’s Sister or Friendship Cities to the conference to enhance our bilateral working relationship in climate strategies.
