WELCOME TO THE

Penang International Climate Change Conference 2017
"Making Cities A Solution"
9 - 10 September 2017   I  Setia SPICE Convention Centre

Penang has seen many challenging years in this decade. The situation got aggravated in 2016. Like many other places, we have seen extreme weathers and rainstorms causing intensifying drought and flooding. Outside of our nation, we have witnessed lots of devastations and the consequences of climate change.

According to NASA, we have been breaking global temperature records once every three years. In 2016, the Earth’s surface temperature shattered the previous record for hottest year by 0.12 degree C. In January 2017 itself has recorded a global composite temperate of +0.30 degree C, above 30-year average for January.

There has been many high-level meetings and discussion on climate change around the world in hopes of making a change. However, with matters escalated, there is an added urgency to the need for a more comprehensive international climate change agreement and policymaking.

Through the Penang International Climate Change Conference 2017, we hope to increase the dialogue among stakeholders and identify all the challenges, best practises and solutions to our impending issue.

Welcome

Penang International Climate Change Conference 2017
“Making Cities A Solution”

Penang has seen many challenging years in this decade. The situation got aggravated in 2016. Recent data from the Meteorological Department shows the minimum temperature in Penang has increased 1.5 degree Celsius over the last 51 years (1966–2015).

January 2017 has broken a 30-year average temperature record for the month itself, hitting global composite temperature of +0.30 degree C.

There has been many high-level meetings and discussion on climate change around the world in hopes of making a change. However, with matters escalated, there is an added urgency to the need for a more comprehensive international climate change agreement and policymaking.

Through the Penang International Climate Change Conference 2017, we hope to increase the dialogue among stakeholders and identify all the challenges, best practices and solutions to our impending issue.
